Catchment Soil Properties Affect Metal(loid) Enrichment in Reservoir Sediments of German Low Mountain Regions

چکیده

Sediment management is a fundamental part of reservoir operation, but it often complicated by metal(loid) enrichment in sediments. Knowledge concerning the sources potential contaminants therefore important significance. To address this issue, concentrations and mobile fractions metal(loid)s were determined sediments respective catchment areas six reservoirs. The results indicate that reservoirs generally have high for contaminated sediment accumulation due to preferential deposition fine particles. median values element-specific factor (EF) demonstrates slight enrichments arsenic (EF: 3.4), chromium 2.8), vanadium 2.9) cadmium 8.2), manganese 3.9), nickel 4.8), zinc 5.0) are significantly higher. This enabled diffuse element release from soils into impounded streams, which particularly favored soil acidity. Leaching partially enriches elements stream before their fine-grained portions particular deposited as sediment. We assume effect relevance especially impounding small streams with forested catchments weakly acid buffering parent material formation.

Limnological Properties of a Rocky Mountain Headwater Reservoir

Hyalite Reservoir, bntana, was studied to determine properties of this small, montane, headwater, deep-release reservoir relative to reservoirs at lower elevations. While retention times for waters were as brief as 12 d, the mean residency of 40 d from mid-March to mid-December was within the range reported for other reservoirs. No significant through-reservoir gradients for suspended sediments...

Spatial variation and temporal stability of soil water in a snow-dominated, mountain catchment

Soil is a critical intermediary of water flux between precipitation and stream flow. Characterization of soil water content ( , m3 m 3) may be especially difficult in mountainous, snow-dominated catchments due to highly variable water inputs, topography, soils and vegetation. However, individual sites exhibit similar seasonal dynamics, suggesting that it may be possible to describe spatial vari...

Effect of lichen biological soil crusts on soil properties derived from early Holocene sandy sediments

Introduction: Biological soil crusts are a community of cyanobacteria, fungi, lichens, and mosses and play key roles in arid and semi-arid regions including carbon and nitrogen accumulation, soil fertility, dust capture, soil conservation and stability. Recent studies show that the formation of biological soil crusts on mobile dunes areas is extremely difficult due to low vegetation cover, st...

Evaluation soil erodibility in catchment of Torogh dam of Mashhad

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Soil erosion is one of the most important problems in the arid and semi-arid areas in Iran and the knowledge about its content has an important role on the management practices of soil conservation. Topography as one of the soil-making factors affects the physical properties of the soil through the aspect and the degree of the slope. The aspect of the slope c...
